Hello, First Look Friends!
Have you ever played PAC-MAN? (Yes, that PAC-MAN game from the 1980s—it’s still around.) The best part of that game is eating the large power pellets. Pac-Man immediately powers up, and then you can do anything. The bad guys can’t get you! You can eat them and earn bonus points doing it! It’s awesome!
Feeling like we can do anything is a pretty great feeling. We may not have power pellets lying around that we can eat to power up, but we do have another power source—a real power source that gives us the power to do everything God wants us to do. His name is Jesus. And, He is AMAZING!
We will kick off the month this month introducing LOVE to our preschoolers. God loves the world so much, He sent us Jesus to be our friend forever. When Jesus is your friend, He gives you the power to love. When we know Jesus, He gives us the power to love in a way that is different than the world.
Week two, we will talk about what JOY looks like, and we can’t think of a better story to help us than Paul and Silas worshipping in prison. You know Jesus had to give them the power to do that! When Jesus is our friend, He gives us the power to have joy. We can have joy—even when we are in hard times—when we know Jesus.
Week three is a week of peace. When connected to Jesus, He gives us the power to have peace. For preschoolers, we define peace as we don’t have to worry. Just look at the birds and the flowers. God takes care of them, so we know He’ll take care of us too. When Jesus is your friend, He gives you the power to have peace. Jesus taught us that wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, you can have peace because God is with you.
Week four, we will see how a man named Simeon powered up to have patience. He waited a looooong time to see God do what He said He would do. When Jesus is your friend, He gives you the power to be patient. Waiting in line for the slide or waiting for cookies to bake is hard, but we can have patience.
We will end with week five, where we will learn what it looks like to be kind. Jesus gives us the power to be kind to everyone, not just the people who are like us. The Good Samaritan will help with this one. When Jesus is your friend, He gives you the power to be kind. We can share and show kindness to one another when we know Jesus.
We are going to Power Up through the next two months with the hope of creating a super fun and engaging experience for preschoolers to learn about the fruit of the spirit—what happens when we are connected to Jesus, the real power source.
We have a Family Experience included in this month’s download! Take the opportunity to invite your preschool families to play together and learn more about Jesus. You will want to read through these materials soon so you have enough time to prepare an awesome Power Up experience for your families.
We have a very special Ollie Power Up Coloring Book for June and July! They will be available mid-April, and we encourage you to purchase them early to avoid missing out. Ollie will take our preschool friends through the Bottom Line, Basic Truth, and Memory Verse for Power Up as well as each weekly idea they are learning. Be sure to look for the picture of Ollie on each page. He’s hiding on some!
Manny and Harper are in the clubhouse this month enjoying their new Power Up video game console! They’ve discovered some pretty awesome games that help Ollie teach them about the fruit of the spirit. You can find their stories on the Wonder! DVD this month. The DVD is available at The Orange Store, and you can even sign up for a monthly subscription. Use this DVD to supplement a live Storyteller and/or Host for the Story section of the curriculum. In addition, the Wonder! videos are available in the monthly media package.
June’s Preview Video is available in the June download—it is located in the week one Prelude file. If you’d like to embed the video into your church blog, we have it available on Vimeo.Feel free to share the vision with everyone!
Our team will be praying for you to have moments filled with wonder as you give preschoolers a “first look” at the God who made them, loves them, and wants to be their friend forever.
