Hello First Look Friends!
It’s time for us to start a new year! Yes, can you believe it?
In August 2019, First Look will begin its 16th year of publication!
We are continually evaluating the First Look curriculum and trying to make it the best it can be for our partners. And, we always see ways we can improve. This past year was no different, and we’ve made a few updates this year that we know you will be excited about. Read below to see the many AWESOME changes/additions we’ve made that start with the August 2019 curriculum.
While the Starter Tier isn’t new, we have made some changes to it. The activities included in the Starter Tier are now completely different than those in the Premium Tier. These lessons are specifically designed for churches with less than fifteen preschoolers in their environments. In addition, when we write these lessons, we do so using as few easily accessible supplies as possible. If you are a smaller church or have small satellite campuses, be sure to check out this tier.
Starting with the August curriculum, we are excited to also provide First Look Partners Story Images to accompany each week’s stories. Found in the Large Group Images folder in both tiers, you can use these images on your screens when telling the Bible story. Alternately, you enlarge the JPGs and print them to show your smaller groups.
We now include Special Needs Adaptations for our Small Group activities in both the Starter and Premium Tiers. The majority of First Look activities are already designed to engage preschoolers through a variety of stimuli, but we’ve looked them over again with a special needs lens and created a separate document to use in environments including children with special needs. In the Starter Tier, this document is found in the Scripts folder each week. In the Premium Tier, it is found in the Small Groups folder. For more information on these resources, click here. Want to learn more about developing a special needs ministry? Check out a recent Orange Kids podcast.
We know you love your volunteers so we are now creating a monthly Volunteer Appreciation printable to help you tell them how awesome they are. Look for each month’s Volunteer Appreciation printable and instructions in the Prelude folder. We plan to provide various types throughout the year.
Our annual Basic Truth, Toddler, and Theme Posters are now available in the Orange Store. Use these to enhance your environments. Click here to see these.
Have you always wanted to have Ollie visit your Large Group environment? Now he can with our brand new Ollie Wall Sticker. Mount this on foam core to allow Ollie to move from room to room or mount on the wall for a more permanent decoration. Click here for wall sticker.
We have a new album for the 2019-2020 year and a Dance Moves DVD to accompany it. The songs on the new album, All Good, album are being used as the monthly songs for the First Look curriculum from August 2019 through May 2020 (with the exception of December)! Yes! Encourage all your parents to get this album so the children can sing and dance along at home too. Use the following link to help parents find the album on iTunes. https://bit.ly/OK_AllGood
We continue to offer our Preschool Family Experiences. These quarterly events are a wonderful time to bring your parents and preschoolers together for a time of fun and learning. You will find Preschool Family Experience materials in the Premium tiers of September, January, April, and June/July. They will be in a separate folder titled “Family Experience.”
Have you seen that Orange Kids has a podcast now? Be sure to check it out here. Hosted by Mike, Gina, and Kellen, the Orange Kids Podcast discusses issues pertinent to preschool and elementary ministries. You can find it on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Spotify or here.
We look forward to partnering with you for another AWESOM year as we help preschoolers learn…
God made me.
God loves me.
Jesus wants to be my friend forever.
