April 2020 Editor’s Notes

Hello, First Look Friends!

In the spring, everywhere we look we see green starting to push through the soil and trees heavy with buds getting ready to bloom. Everything just feels so alive! It’s the perfect picture to help teach preschoolers that Jesus is alive!

We are sharing with preschoolers the life-changing truth that Jesus is alive and He wants to be their friend forever. We are planting seeds that we pray will grow and bloom into a faith that is as alive as Jesus. A love that will love like Jesus. A compassion that will care like Jesus. A life that will give like Jesus.

To start the month, we are going to celebrate Palm Sunday in a big way with our preschoolers and talk about how Jesus is special. So get those palm branches ready! Hosanna! Hosanna! Yay, Jesus!

Next is the most important thing we will ever share with preschoolers. It is the reason we follow Jesus and can truly be friends with Him forever. Jesus said He would go away but He would come back. Then He died. Jesus’ friends were so very sad. But on the third day, Jesus did come back, just like He said He would! This day is all about the truth that Jesus is alive!

Then comes a crucial part of the Easter story for our preschoolers. Jesus’ friends are out in a boat and they look to the shore. Guess who they see? Jesus! He’s sitting on the beach cooking breakfast. They quickly join Him to eat, talk, and just be with their good friend, Jesus. This story of Jesus being with His friends on the beach helps solidify the idea that Jesus really did come back in preschool minds.

We end the month with Jesus giving all of His followers a special command. Go and tell. Go and tell everyone everywhere that Jesus is alive and He wants to be their friend forever. People who follow Jesus have been doing this ever since He came back. That’s why we know Jesus is alive, and it’s up to us to keep telling others so everyone everywhere knows that Jesus is alive!

Each time you see a flower bloom this spring, let it be a sweet reminder of the tremendous privilege we have to go and tell preschoolers and their families that Jesus is alive.

Kai and Lucy are in the clubhouse this month. They are planting flowers during their time there. You can find their stories on the Wonder! DVD this month. The DVD is available at The Orange Store, and you can even sign up for a monthly subscription. Use this DVD to supplement a live Storyteller and/or Host for the Story section of the curriculum. In addition, the Wonder! videos are available in the monthly media package.

April’s Preview Video is available in the April download—it is located in the week one Prelude file. If you’d like to embed the video into your church blog, we have it available on Vimeo.Feel free to share the vision with everyone!

Our team will be praying for you to have moments filled with wonder as you give preschoolers a “first look” at the God who made them, loves them, and wants to be their friend forever.
