All month long we’re talking about initiative. Initiative is seeing what needs to be done and doing it. There is no shortage of things that need to be done around us as leaders, Amen? Here’s the thing, we have to remember to keep the main thing the main thing. As leaders it is: vitally important that we keep our priorities in alignment. I think it’s safe to say that if we were asked this question, “What are your priorities?” We would all most likely say God first, marriage second, kids third, job fourth and friends fifth and so on and so on. However, if we were to give a complete stranger access to our calendars do you think that our activities and schedules would reflect our priorities? It’s always good to hit pause and reassess the places that we as leaders are choosing to take initiative. Or we might fall into the trap of doing too many non-prioritized achievements. Good is the enemy of great!
So how do we know if we are taking initiative in the right places?
1.) Pray -if we are not praying then we will not be aligned with the things that God is calling us to do in leadership.
2.) Have Vision- What are your goals? What are you aiming for? If we reach for nothing we will hit it every time.
3.) Say No- sometimes saying no is opening up your schedule to say yes to the things that are truly important to growing you and your ministry.
4.) Say Yes- if you say yes to something make sure that you are able to go all in. Holding nothing back so that you can make it your best yes.
5.) Stay Accountable- make sure you have intentionally put someone in your life to help you stay on track.
