Sunday mornings are like game day for children’s ministry. Just like any good coach, gather your team of volunteers for a pre-game pep talk. Answer any questions about the curriculum and ask for prayer requests. Then read the following devotion to kick the morning off:
Raise your hand if you’ve read this parable in the past and thought the older brother got the raw end of the deal? After all, he was the one who stayed, the one who kept faithfully working for and honoring his dad. But remember, this story Jesus told is a clear picture of the way God chooses to treat us. Just as the father in this story forgave his son, God offers forgiveness to us, always. And we certainly WANT to be forgiven when we’re the ones in the wrong. But we don’t always offer forgiveness when the wrong has been done to us or those closest to us. Withholding forgiveness can never fix the relationship. Let’s help our kids understand this week that [Bottom Line] when you don’t forgive, you miss out.
