Multiplying Yourself for Greater Impact

Don’t worry, we’re not taking a stand in support of human cloning. But think about it: How much better would your ministry be if there were about five more ministry leaders, five more of you?

Believe it or not, there is a way to multiply yourself. We call them coaches. Rather than the pastor/director trying to lead all the volunteers, he or she looks for leaders who are already serving and begins to develop them as coaches. Rather than continuing to lead one small group of children, a coach leads a small group of volunteers who lead small groups of children.

You may begin with only one or two coaches, but when you find them, waste no time in pouring your heart into them. Begin training them on how to care for volunteers, how to build their teams, how to train other volunteers to serve . . . to begin multiplying you.

How have you seen coaches make Sunday mornings smoother and easier? What characteristics do you look for in a coach?

  1. Our coaches definitely make Sunday morning go smoother. In our structure we have directors of environments, then coaches for specific teams and then members of those teams. In directors I look for leaders who fully get the vision and strategy and who have the capacity and desire to develop leaders. In coaches I look for similar things, but probably a little more relational and a little less in leadership development.

  2. I don’t know what I would do without my coaches! (Actually yes I do… I would lose my mind!) Coaches are one of the best things that have ever happened to LACC!!! As we have grown, I have found I can no longer pour into every team member like I need to. So it is great that I pour into coaches (loving on them, training them, thanking them, supporting them, praying for them), coaches pour into small group leaders and other team members, then small group leaders and other team members pour into kids and what they do. It is that simple! I still get to love on kids and other volunteers… but I don’t have to worry about missing anyone!

  3. I love our coaches! We have a small(ish) program – 120 kids or so, so we have coaches for our elementary kids only. They check in with our SGL’s and help with anything and everything – getting more supplies, crowd control, behavior issues, etc. This has allowed me to interact with parents and visitors and to oversee the whole program rather than stepping into just one classroom (where I’m out of site and will likely spend more time than I have dealing with a problem or chatting with kiddos!). I have been on maternity leave for the past 6 weeks and I haven’t worried about Sunday mornings at all, because I know I left my volunteers in GREAT hands!
