Setting the Stage – The Market (January 2019)

One of the wonderful things about preschoolers is they know they have needs and they are not afraid to let you know. That’s a good thing and something we want to use to help preschoolers see another need they have – a need we all have – and that is Jesus.

Yes, I need Jesus is the focus this month. And, we know from experience that the older preschoolers get, the more they will need Jesus. Life can be tough. Having a friend like Jesus who knows us, loves us, and has the power to help us can truly change our lives.

After all, that’s what friends do. They help one another when they need it. And there is no better friend than Jesus.

The Welcome Center & Hallway
It’s time to head to “The Market” where our preschoolers can learn that the thing they need the most is not something they buy in a store. What we all truly need is Jesus!

Decorate your halls and classrooms with images of fresh fruit and vegetables. Make a fruit stand from butcher paper and hang it on the wall. Fill baskets with fake food and tuck them in corners to add a splash of color. Don’t forget to create a big, open area where you can collect the food your preschoolers bring in as part of their service project this month. Challenge them to fill your space with cans of colorful fruits and vegetables as well as other supplies your local food bank needs.

Cover your welcome center tables with a brown tablecloth and add small baskets of fruit to the front to create a market atmosphere. Tape fake flowers to the ends of your pens and make some bouquets.
