January 2020 Editor’s Notes

Hello, First Look Friends!

It’s time for a Beach Party—sand, sun, and a whole lot of fun! (Yes, we know it’s January and half of us are looking out our windows at snow, but that’s just when you need to think of the beach!) Jesus spent a great deal of time on or near the beach. In fact, He performed MANY miracles near the water. So, the beach is the perfect environment for our preschoolers to learn that Jesus can do anything.

Our preschoolers learned that God gave us Jesus in December, and now they will learn that because Jesus is God’s Son, He can do anything! With God all things are possible!

Our week one focus is our bottom line—Jesus can do anything.Preschoolers will hear about the time Jesus saved a wedding celebration by turning water into wine, or what we like to call “super fancy party drink.” John, one of Jesus’ disciples, said Jesus just told the people what to do. One minute there were jars of water and the next there were jars of wine.

In week two, we focus on the idea that Jesus can do things we can’t.Children will learn about the time Jesus told Peter to take Him out in his boat to go fishing. Peter and the other fisherman hadn’t caught anything all night, but because Jesus told him to try again, he did. Do you know what happened? Jesus and Peter caught so many fish the boat almost sunk! Only Jesus could do that!

Week three, our focus is nothing is too hard for Jesus. Preschoolers will hear about Matthew, another one of Jesus’ disciples. He wrote about a time when Jesus fed 5,000 people with just five loaves of bread and two fish. Five thousand people—and that’s not even counting the women and children!

In week four, we focus on the fact that Jesus can do the impossible. Well, what seems impossible to us. The children will learn what Matthew tells us about another time when he and the disciples were out on a boat. They were out a pretty good distance and guess who comes walking towards them on the water? Jesus! Jesus was walking on water. Wow!

Throughout their lives, children will encounter things they can’t do. But, in Jesus, they have a friend who can do it all. Jesus can do anything! There is no better friend than Jesus, and He wants to be our friend forever.

Manny and Harper are in the clubhouse this month. They found some fun beach stuff in the garage and are planning a clubhouse beach party! You can find their stories on the Wonder!DVD this month. The DVD is available at The Orange Store, and you can even sign up for a monthly subscription. Use this DVD to supplement a live Storyteller and/or Host for the Story section of the curriculum. In addition, the Wonder! videos are available in the monthly media package.

January is a Family Experience month! Be sure to check out the FX Folder (found in the Premium Tier) soon so you can plan a fun gathering of preschoolers and the special adults in their lives. There is no better way to partner with parents than to provide them with a place to hear God’s truth and play together.

We have an amazing Ollie Beach Ball available in the Orange Store for you to send home this month. This is the perfect take-home for you to use with your Family Experience or just send home one Friday of the month. Preschoolers will be reminded every time they play that Jesus wants to be their friend forever.

January’s Preview Video is available in the January download—it is located in the week one Prelude file. If you’d like to embed the video into your church blog, we have it available on Vimeo.Feel free to share the vision with everyone!

Our team will be praying for you to have moments filled with wonder as you give preschoolers a “first look” at the God who made them, loves them, and wants to be their friend forever.
