Social Media Plan for Elementary Parents starting February 3

Racking your brain for a way to provoke meaningful conversations between parents and their elementary kids in less than 140 characters? Well, rack no more!

Below, you will find everything you need to cue parents this week through every major social media outlet from Twitter to Pinterest (so you can focus your brain power on posting the really important stuff—like that picture you just took of your cat wearing a baby bonnet). And if you missed our first post explaining what all this is, take a second to get up to speed by clicking here!

If Pampers and Goldfish are more your speed, check out our First Look blog for the social media plan to connect parents with preschoolers: http://orangeblogs.org/firstlook

Or if you are surrounded by boy bands and learners permits, try our social media plan for connecting parents and students at: http://orangeblogs.org/xp3students

This week we are supplying you with 6 tweets, 3 Facebook posts with Facebook Timeline photos, 2 pictures for Instagram, and 2 articles to pin on Pinterest. Feel free to use these posts however you wish. Want to get a little crazy and swap Monday’s tweet with Wednesday’s? Go right ahead! Feel like posting a different picture to Instagram? We don’t mind! You can simply copy and paste the words below or add a little flare of your own to any and all posts. These posts should start going out on Monday February 3 and follow this social media plan. If you have any questions, suggestions for content or an exceptionally cute picture of your cat, please share in the comment section below this post. Until next week, Happy Tweeting!

  • Thursday: How much faith do your friends and family have in you? Would they believe you if you told them you saw a dog with two heads? Or if you claimed to know how to fly?  How about if you told them the dirt in your mom’s potted plant tasted like chocolate? Would they have enough faith to grab a spoon and dig in? Well, that’s exactly what you’re going to find out this week! Use this little plant trick to test how much faith your friends and family have in you when all they can see is a plain old potted plant! Materials: Potted Plant and Tin Foil OR a Plastic Cup and Seed, 10-12 Crushed Chocolate Cookies (with no crème), Spoon. How To: If you are using a potted plant, remove 1-2 inches of soil from the top and cover the soil with tin foil. Fill in the extra space with enough crushed cookies that you can no longer see the tin foil. Begin talking about this plant and how it gets a lot of nutrients from the soil. You can point out how dark the soil looks—that must mean it has extra nutrients! Go on and on about how rich the soil is—even rich enough to eat, I bet! Then ask your friend or family member if they believe you enough to take a bite of the dirt. If you are using a plastic cup, fill the cup with crushed cookies. Ask a friend or family member to plant a seed in the dirt and then begin talking about the soil in the same way as above.
