God rest you merry, kid min folks, let nothing you dismay
It’s August, but you’re planning now for Christmas, while you may…
At Orange, aside from bungling classic lyrics, we’ve been thinking Christmas, too!
In the past, we’ve provided all the materials you need to create a full-scale Christmas giving project. While many of you love these resources, we also know that a lot of ministries are committed to local giving opportunities at Christmastime.
That’s why this year, we’re taking our giving partnership and moving it from the holidays into the new year!
We’re excited to announce a special partnership with Compassion International (link: https://www.compassion.com) we’re calling:
Compassion + Orange + You
During December, the kids in your ministry will dig into the Life App of Compassion—caring enough to do something about someone else’s need. From February through May, we’ll provide an incredible opportunity for kids to live out compassion as they begin to discover what life is like for children around the world living with less.
Along with the Life App of Service (lending a hand to help someone else), we’re offering a Live Compassion Parent Cue with activities to help families see what they have and imagine what life is like for a child who may get no more than one meal a day. At the end of the experience, we encourage everyone to address local needs by gathering items for a food drive at your church. If you don’t already have a connection to a local food pantry, this is a great time to start! Many nonprofits receive large donations over the holidays, but run low during the rest of the winter.
March & April
During March, our month of Individuality (discovering who you are meant to be), kids will have the opportunity to learn about and pray for a unique child in need. When you connect with Compassion International, you will be provided with copies of a Live Compassion Payer Card for a child waiting to be sponsored. Six weeks of prompts will help every kid in your ministry pray for this specific child to have everything they need to become the person God created them to be. Our hope is that by the end of the experience, a family within your church will step up to sponsor this child.
Finally, we hope that on May 5 (or a date of your choosing), your church will host a Compassion Sunday, reserving a short time (or a larger part of the service) for families to share about their experiences with Compassion.
If you wish to launch at Christmas, we invite you to connect with Compassion and collect funds for an item in their Gift Catalog (link: https://www.compassion.com/charitable-gift-catalog.htm), like a safe playground, computers, or bicycles for children in need.
All details and promotional resources, including video and social media, will be posted with your curriculum download on October 1.
We can’t wait to see how the kids in your ministry live out compassion into 2019!
*Please note that if you also use First Look curriculum, preschool families will go through their Live Compassion Parent Cue and collect food in January to line up with The Marketplace theme. You can simply begin your food drive in late January and extend into February.
